Moved In!
8/17/2025
Long time no post! I've been busy all month with my new job, appointments, and, of course, moving into my new apartment. Which I'm happy to say is finally (mostly) done! I still have things to bring back from the trailer, and I need to clean the trailer, but I'm going to just take time on Saturdays to go do that. I've had packed weekends for too damn long, now that I've got the hardest part done, I'm taking Sundays off.
My roommate is actually one of my best friends from high school, we've known each other about a decade now! And he's also literally two days younger than me. While I still prefer living alone when I can, that's almost impossible in this economy right now, and I'd much rather live with someone I know than a complete stranger.
So we've got power, I've got most of my furniture set up- got a nice desk, shelf, and chair from Goodwill for super cheap! We also got an armchair from there... but it smells like piss. I've tried getting the piss smell out, it's just so damn stubborn. I also nabbed a cool shelf fron the school that we're using for shoes. Other than those, though, the main room is pretty damn empty for now.
I was also supposed to have the futon I ordered from Walmart delivered by tonight, but it looks like they ran into some trouble with delivery, so I'll probably have to wait until at least tomorrow. Luckily a friend of mine had a camping cot I can borrow for tonight. It's better than the floor, but still far from ideal. Hopefully it really will be only one night, though. My body's already fucked up enough without a terrible bed.
The one thing we don't have yet, and probably won't until at least next month, is wifi. Luckily I have a hotpsot on my phone with 8GB of data, so if I can manage to ration that out for the next two weeks, I should be alright. Because if my chronically online ass has to go a single day without internet, I start succumbing to the madness. You know how it is. Luckily I've got plenty of games to keep me occupied- I've gotten super back into Stardew Valley lately after not touching it in about 3 years.
And I know this is going to sound silly, but I'm so insanely excited about finally having a desk again. I haven't had a proper, actual desk since I was just out of high school. Feels so good to not have to clear off a table or awkwardly sit in bed with it, I can just sit at my desk and get right to browsing, or writing, or gaming, or whatever I want. An actual dedicated place for my computer. It's still my old laptop with the broken keyboard, but now that I have the space, I think I'm gonna try to build my own PC once I have the money, I've always wanted to do that.
I'll tell you who isn't so elated, though. Poor Kit-Kat is so scared, we just got here about one and she's spent most of her time since then hiding behind the toilet in my bathroom and crying. She wants to go home, and she doesn't realize yet that this is her new home. Since she seems to feel safest in the bathroom, I put her food and water in there for the time being. That's where I initially let her out of the carrier while I was bringing stuff in, so that might be why she feels safer there. I've just been occasionally going to check on her and trying to help her feel safer here. I'm honestly kind of worried for tomorrow, when I'll be at work all night. If my roommate has tomorrow night off, I might ask him to check on her every now and then. She knew him back when he would come over in high school, but it's been so long, I don't know if she'll remember him. We'll just have to find out once he gets back from work tonight. I just want to make sure she's eating and drinking, I don't think she has since we got here, and now that I'm farther away from work than I used to be, I can't just pop up here on my lunch to check on her. It's gonna be a really hard adjustment period for her, but I'll do my best to make sure she feels comfortable and safe in the meantime.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the arrangement. Other than that we need more furniture, my only real problem with the unit is that the washing machine they literally just installed this week doesn't seem to be working. It's like it's not getting water for some reason, it starts to fill but no water comes out, and then eventually just cancels the cycle. I'm trying one more time on a quick wash, but if that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure the communal laundry room is closed right now. And I have so much laundry to do.
So I'm sort of back, but probably won't be back back until I get wifi next month. But it seems like my life is finally back on the rails after spinning in place for so long, I'm excited to keep moving forward!
